Morning Walks: Bed-Stuy
By Paul Notice
Throop Avenue in Brooklyn, NY is home to some of the most famous underground graffiti and hip hop artists in the US. What's striking about many of these graffiti works is how they convey both the aesthetic of Bed-Stuy, as well as its stories of historical resistance and community. That also lends itself to the culture of political activism in Bed-Stuy, covering everything from fights to keep state hospitals (bastions of employment and affordable healthcare), to local movements against predatory landlords.
Here's a look at some of the artwork I found on my way to work today.
