A music video of J. Read's 2019 single "Everything." As J. Read leaves his basement, the world around him becomes increasingly otherworldly, creating a collage of iconic Newark images and tropes until his final verse at the famous Black Newark hot spot, La Rouge Lounge.

Director’s Note

In this work, I wanted to create a modern collage of the abstract ideas and complex images found in J Read’s lyrics and ground them in the environment that helped create them: Newark. My work blends 1970’s effects with modern color keying effects and rhythmic patterns to convey a lucid waking dream inside the artists’ mind. However, when it comes to the VFX compositing in urban landscapes, my editing was heavily influenced by Hidiji Film’s work in Playboi Carti’s “Magnolia” and the “cut-out” animation style of Monty Python's Terry Gilliam.
