    While the song “Plantation” deconstructs the pathology behind weddings happening on Plantation, I delved deeper into a broader concept: Celebratory spaces of leisure with whitewashed histories of Anti-Black violence. I approached this by filming in several places, a performance artist retreat hosted up in the Catskills, where enslaved people were once kept, and Van Cortland Park, a former plantation, where you can still see the cemetery of the enslaved people who spent their lives in captivity in the same place where tennis courts and picnic grills are now placed. These two spaces, located above the Mason-Dixon Line, reveal the pervasiveness of chattel slavery, while we commune with the ghosts of forgotten ancestors through the eyes of the Black protagonists on screen.
