We're finally WRAPPED on filming for the Director's Cut of "Willow: State of Emergency."
Big thanks to the ultra-talented Ashely Jones (Willow Kerubo Brown) and Suzanne Darrell (Vanessa Masiko Drew) for joining our cast.
So, when I was asked to direct & produce the film adaption of MIRRORS, we were faced with a daunting issue: Instead of the usual 28-35 days needed to shoot this film adaption, we only had four.
So, the question became: “How do we shoot this in FOUR days?” Yep, that’s right FOUR DAYS. I got to thinking, scheming, and dreaming, and eventually, here were my solutions…
Centering Black Spaces, memory, joy, flexing, the fluidity and deconstruction of gender and so much more - these are exactly the kind of things I love supporting and producing with The Notice Blog
There are often times I'm reminded of my great grandfather's lessons in practicing joy and compassion for others, just by hearing his own laugh echoing in my own. And through the nostalgic tears of memories, I'm healed. I want to remind people of this kind of healing. Of this kind of haunting.
a good haunting.
Imagine 2 Black witches working together to seemingly escape, then defeat a danger that we cannot see. In a way, that’s the life of Black folx working for liberation - a lot of people can’t see the magic, nor the danger it saves them from.
Starring Ricarrdo Valentine & Regine Bellinger
Directed by Paul Notice
Director of Photography Elliot Guilbe
Music by David Whitwell
Imagine a product that people consume more of as the price rises - and vice versa. Imagine something that violates the basic law of demand in microeconomics. That’s a Giffen good. […] We became starkly aware that both Orlando and I were once - and in some respects still - considered a Giffen good. The performance transformed into a defiant act in the face of statues of YT men long dead, who once sold us on the steps of Wall Street.

We’re producing an All-Black horror film, where Black & Brown folx - once fed on by centuries - are now running out of White people to eat. It’s called “Willow.” Find out more here: bit.ly/willowhorror
"Willow" is part of a larger project, sponsored by The Notice Foundation, a 501(c)(3) private foundation that develops and supports narratives from marginalized communities. The "Willow" project focuses on hiring BIPOC folx behind the camera, as well as in front of the camera.
In a world, that literally runs on the blood of Black and Brown bodies, a new day has finally come.. at a price. A vivid retelling of Audrey Lorde’s adage: “the Master’s tools shall never dismantle the master’s house” - ‘Willow’ explores a less innocuous understanding of American society, through exploitation, relationships and capitalism.

I'm feeling so much gratitude for the work I'm doing right now.
On Tuesday, I got the opportunity to co-direct & shoot with my producer/co-director buddy Pierre Jean Gonzalez on an immensely powerful piece that tackles gender & sexuality in Bomba.
Here’s a film that I’m REALLY proud of: “Release.” I co-directed, edited and DP’d (director of photography) on it. And I was smart enough to ask for help from Katrina Reid (1st AD/ Production Manager), Dominik Czaczyk (Gaffer/2nd Camera) & Sultan Ali (Grip/2nd AC). After nearly two months of pre-production, we managed to turn two days of shooting into a masterpiece.

When a high school student is forced on an errand to Trader Joe's, he runs into a stranger who might be able to save his life.. at a cost. Inspired by the death of Trayvon Martin, 'You Can't Die Here' explores the violence against unarmed Black men in a way that hasn't been seen before. Originally produced as a stage play in IMPACT's 2012 Director's Weekend, the original cast and playwright remade this story for the screen.
