In 2017, Why Accountability and other New York activist groups joined together to provide free swipes to commuters in the Bronx, East New York, East Harlem, and other places targeted for fare-beating arrests. Demonstrators repeated to commuters and observing police officers that βPoverty is not a crimeβ, and that it is entirely legal to offer free swipes to fellow commuters.
Months of work for one end-of-year extravaganza: The Afrofuturist Vampire Dance Party! Last December we celebrated the culmination of 4 years of indie film production to create βWillow: State of Emergency.β Itβs from the world of Paul A. Notice II's 2013 play, βWillow.β Watch it now on Amazon Prime!
Closing out the 2023 Holidays, ReelWorks hosted a gathering of Alumni from each of their training courses over the years. Whatβs remarkable was the amount of participants from BIPOC, Queer, Femme communities. While the TV and Film industry only consists of 28.8% of BIPOC professionals, 26% women - more than 80% of the alumni participants were from these communities.
Thank you so much for coming out to the Afrofuturist Vampire Dance Party! This was one of the largest and most fantastic turnouts for our βWillowβ events this year - and that is because of your presence and vibes!
On Tuesday, Sept 26th, I got the opportunity to talk about "Willow" on BronxNet w/ Kibin Alleyne!

Take a journey with Jussie Smollet pre-scandal, as he performs on New York subways to promote an upcoming album.

In this revealing and frank interview, former-gang members & anti-violence activists Vidal Guzman & Chris Williams peel back the layers of prejudice and marginalization to explore the root causes of violence. Cycles of recidivism, systemic abuse, violent over-policing, and self-defense-driven cycles of retaliation uncover a deeper, more complicated story than the classist/racist stereotypes weβre often fed.

Checkout this 2015 short documentary I produced, examining avant-guarde trombonist David Whitwell's take on Classical Music during the early days of his career.
Centering Black Spaces, memory, joy, flexing, the fluidity and deconstruction of gender and so much more - these are exactly the kind of things I love supporting and producing with The Notice Blog
Itβs been nearly a year since Iβve first biked with Nyle, Aisha, Katrina on a Warriors Bike Run.
Think the 1979 cult classic βThe Warriors,β except we bike from the Bronx - all the way back down to Coney Island for a showdown between the finalists.
And Iβm finally releasing a cut of what I shot on my iPhone that night.
Btw, our crew was the Joint Council - we dressed as retired day-traders-turned-pot enthusiasts - Because you dress for the job you WANT. J/K. No Rowling.

Community is key.β£
Iβve been thinking about Community more often, since editing βSweet Waterβ a short doc about Black communal spaces, & as the name implies; a Black commune in Southside Chicago, called βSweet Water.β Fortunately, some good friends, Alex Antoine & Aaliyah Cristine, introduced me to this place.
Guess what? Iβm finally releasing the Sweet Water short documentary I shot back in 2018. So, Iβm hosting a Screening + Panel Discussion event on Zoom to premiere it. And you can see it right here:

Hereβs some test footage for an upcoming project. I figured itβd need a decent tune to accompany it. And two hours later, this came out. π€
Over the years, Iβve made countless little short songs for myself, friends, loved ones, clients - even dates.
Some have words.
Some donβt.
Many are in a cappella.
They arenβt the most polished.
But theyβre original.
And theyβre me.
Here's some lessons I learned over the past 10 years as a producer. Enjoy!

Join us behind the scenes with a six-part series from Writer/Director, Paul Notice (@pinotgrig). We were recently asked onto Making Movies is Hard for a five-minute segment - check out the podcast episode in our #linkinbio - but we had more to say. So weβre sharing our full answers with you here.
LOST BOYS
We're going to start fundraising for our new web series "Lost Boys." Here are some outtakes
Creative Producer Glenn Quinton & Executive Producer Paul Notice take a walk through Harlem, talk about politics and their new series, "Lost Boys."
YOU CAN'T DIE HERE
When a high school student is forced on an errand to Trader Joe's, he runs into a stranger who might be able to save his life.. at a cost. Inspired by the death of Trayvon Martin, 'You Can't Die Here' explores the violence against unarmed Black men in a way that hasn't been seen before. Originally produced as a stage play in IMPACT's 2012 Director's Weekend, the original cast and playwright remade this story for the screen.
I've always complained about this bizarre trope we see in modern films. Checkout this awesome video that examines the use of "abduction as romance" in entertainment.
A little blast from the past: here's TNB's first web series - all the way from 2014, when we were just starting to get into video production full-scale.
Take a Look back at the first Official Trailer for our very first web series: "You Can't Die Here."
Remember that little web series I made a couple of years ago? Welp, I still do. My work's come a long way since then, but it's still relevant today. Anyway, here's Episode 4 of "You Can't Die Here."

YOU CAN'T DIE HERE Episode 2: "What Does He Want?"
Synopsis: Richard's unexpected guest gives him an even more cryptic warning..
You Can't Die Here | Epsisode 1: Older siblings hate it when you steal their junk food. But when Richardβs forced to make a run to Trader Joeβs for cookies, he meets a different sort of kin.
#ThrowbackThursday Wanna know how it all started? The very first major film production I've done came after the murder of #MikeBrown. He grew up in the same part of town as me. He was the same age as my little brother - it just hit too close to home for me not to do something. So I did. Here's one of the first videos I did to announce "You Can't Die Here." It was a webseries that focused on exploring the issues surround police violence.

THANK YOU to everyone who made it to our βSweetwaterβ premiere + panel discussion on Black Communal Living.
I also want to take the time to thank everyone who supported me over the years. People volunteered their time, donated their money, their space, equipment, time, AND business to this company - and I am forever grateful for that.

Back in 2017, I interviewed an artist by the name of Kyle Dion at Okay Space - the performance was one of a kind. Literally. It was the only acoustic version of his single, βBrown.β And the song had evolved so dramatically from the studio version, it was worth me scrounging through old files and contracts to see I had clearance to post it after a given amount. And thankfully, I did. So enjoy this ode to Black Love and Music.
I shot and edited this piece a while back in March 2018 for Okay Player, but it never aired. Anyway, think of this video as a look at the other side of Jussie Smollett. The part that gravitates people to him.
